About Photographer

Karim Rahmann is an independent filmmaker and visual storyteller based in Kolkata, working across documentary cinema, visual documentation, and narrative-led digital films within art, culture, theatre, music, and design. His practice lies at the intersection of research and cinema, translating ideas, processes, and lived experiences into carefully constructed visual narratives.

Karim Rahmann has led video and content strategy for several major cultural institutions & platforms. He served as Head of Video Production for the inaugural edition of the Bengal Biennale, shaping its documentation framework and visual language. He has been closely associated with Emami Art, producing artist portfolio films for archival and institutional contexts. He has also headed content and video production for TATA Steel Chess India 2026, Kolkata Literary Meet 2026, DAG Museum’s fifth edition of City as a Museum, and Kolkata Centre for Creativity’s annual AMI Arts Festival for the past four years.

Karim Rahmann’s collaborations include Emami Art, DAG Museums, Asia Society India Centre, National Trust Kedleston Hall (UK), Teach For India, Gallery Sanskriti, Gallerie 88, Prinseps, KAEE Contemporary, Namay Samay, Bailouand other cultural institutions, where he has directed exhibition films, artist features, and long-form visual narratives.

Karim Rahmann began his career documenting live music and performing arts, working with artists across genres before moving into institutional and research-driven film making. He was the official photographer for Divine’s PunyaPaap Tour and has worked with artists including Papon, Lifafa, Nucleya, Anjan Dutt, and Kabir Suman among others.

With an academic foundation in literature and research, his film making approach is informed by narrative study and critical theory, bringing attention to context, subtext, and structure.

Karim Rahmann continues to experiment with cinematic form through sustained collaborations with artists, curators, and institutions – building research-led visual narratives grounded in clarity, rigor, and context.
